This wooden chess set is a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka, inspired by the  Esala Perahera, also known as The Festival of the Tooth. This grand event, Asia's largest traditional parade, takes place in Kandy, the former capital of Sri Lanka, every summer. The festively decorated elephants, replacing the knights in the game, and the many other references in each piece, are a celebration of this vibrant culture.

The rubberwood used in this chess set is a sustainable choice. It is a type of lumber that produces latex for rubber, and after 25-30 years of production, the old trees are cut down to renew the rubber forest. This responsible approach ensures that the ecosystem is preserved, and the old trees are either burned or reused for smaller objects, minimizing waste.

Ginikuru wood comes from trees widespread on the island, is easy to grow, and has a 2-3 years lifespan. The ecosystem around the trees has little to no impact in this short time. As Ginikuru's literal translation is 'matchwood,' its reference comes from the properties of the tree species: it is fragile yet sturdy and highly suitable for wood carving.

    FAQ

Our bed linen is manufactured in a GOTS certified factory, found in the Colombo region, Sri Lanka. Our percale and sateen fabrics are made of the finest organic GOTS certified cotton from India.

Our percale and sateen fabrics are made of the finest organic GOTS certified cotton, from India.

We use a 100% recycled premium polyester core spun sewing thread that is Oeko-Tex certified.

All our bedding items are GOTS certified.

The thread count (TC) shows the weave density of the fabric. It refers to the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric — add the vertical threads (technically, the “warp”) to the horizontal threads (the “filling”) to get the thread count.

Each thread in a piece of fabric is made up of single strands twisted together. This is called ply. When two strands are twisted together, it is two-ply fabric; with three strands, it is three-ply; etc. Single ply fabrics are slightly more delicate but are naturally soft and smooth to the touch.

Four Leaves bedding is 300 TC single ply.

Both percale and sateen are made using the finest long-staple organic cotton – the difference is a result of how they are woven.

Percale is a plain weave and characterised by a matte finish and crisp touch. You can compare it to the perfect white button-down shirt. Percale is also very breathable making it perfect for summertime or warmer climates. Percale fabrics will get softer with continued use.

Sateen is usually a little thicker and more tightly woven to create a silky-smooth surface with a luminous sheen and is known for its luster and drape. Our sateen is extremely soft and smooth, it has a subtle shine, inviting touch, perfect to curl up in.

    Wash directly after purchase.

Machine wash cool (max 40 °C) using mild, liquid laundry detergent.

Wash inside out to offer extra protection to the embroideries.

    Wash separately.

    Do not bleach.

Iron on lowest heat if desired. Avoid ironing on the embroideries and labels.

Line-dry naturally to preserve fibres, colours and minimise wrinkling. If you use a dryer, choose a low heat and low tumble cycle. Remove promptly.

Our sets are pre-bundled, and you cannot mix and match size, colour or fabric. However, you could buy a pillowcase set with different leaf colour to add some variation.

We do not currently offer a hospitality bed linen collection. However, there are plans to do so in the future. The bed linen for this collection needs to be designed to withstand heavy and regular commercial laundering.

However, we do supply smaller boutique hotels and B&B’s with our current bed linen. These items can withstand normal consumer washing.
